Campbeltown martial arts club SG Taekwon-do started the year strongly, securing an impressive 38 medals at the UKTC Wishaw Championships.
After a focused three-week training block following the Christmas break – which included gruelling three-hour Saturday squad sessions – the club’s dedication paid off on Sunday, January 26, at its first competition of 2026.
The team’s “togetherness” and “family feel” powered them to a final count of 21 gold, 11 silver, and six bronze medals.
The medal-winners were:
Adults: James Collett: 3 gold; Shannon Milloy: 3 gold; Stephen Harris: 1 gold; Liz Collett: 1 gold; Gordon West: 1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze; Cameron West: 1 silver, 1 bronze.
Juniors: Sienna Hogan: 3 gold; Sean Grady Jnr: 2 gold, 1 silver; Skye Lavery: 2 gold, 1 silver; Finn Grady: 1 gold, 2 silver; Piper Docherty: 1 gold, 1 silver; Islay Lavery: 1 gold, 1 silver; Anna Watson: 1 gold, 1 silver; William Walker: 1 gold; Keirin Docherty: 1 silver; Aimee Collett: 1 silver, 1 bronze; Logan Ridley: 1 bronze; Lacey McKenzie: 1 bronze; Ethan Boyd: 1 bronze.
Coach Sean Grady spoke of his immense pride in the team’s early-season performance.
“The training paid off big time,” he said. “To see my students performing at these levels so early in the year has really got us all excited for what’s to come.
“It was a fantastic tournament hosted by our friends at UKTC, and I want to thank the Masters and Grand Masters for looking after our team so well.”
The club also has reason to celebrate a major individual milestone. Mr Grady’s son, Sean Grady Jnr, has been officially selected for the ITF Scotland national team, and is set to travel to Mexico in late October to represent his country on the world stage.

In addition to his individual spot, Sean Jnr will begin intensive training with the national squad in a bid to earn a place in the Junior Male Scottish Team for upcoming team events.
While the club returns to its regular training schedule, members are turning their attention towards May, when SG Taekwon-do will host a major showcase event in Campbeltown.
“It will be a chance for people to come along, have a great night, and see what Taekwon-do is really all about,” said Mr Grady.
