5-day Isle of Arran Itinerary

Day 2: Wildlife and the West Coast

Morning:

• Head to the west coast via The String Road.
  
  

• Visit Machrie Moor Standing Stones – a short, magical walk through moorland to ancient Neolithic stone circles.
  
  

Afternoon:

• Lunch at Cafe Thyme near Machrie - shop, cafe and playpark

• Visit King’s Cave near Blackwaterfoot (circular walk suitable for older kids).

• Spot seals at Kildonan beach on the way back, and keep an eye out for otters or even golden eagles.
  
  

Evening:

• Return to base.
  
  

Family games night or explore local shops for souvenirs.

Day 3: Adventure Day

Morning:

• Climb Goatfell (if children are old enough and weather permits) – or do the shorter Glen Rosa walk for dramatic mountain views without the steep climb.
  
  

Alternative for young families:

• Go pony trekking at North Sannox Pony Trekking Centre.

• Visit Arran Heritage Museum for an indoor alternative.
  
  

Afternoon:

• Relax at Auchrannie’s Playbarn (soft play, indoor pool, and family activities).

• Try a family cycle ride – hire bikes in Brodick and follow safe, scenic trails.
  
  

Evening:

• Pizza night or takeaway chips by the beach.

Day 4: Culture & Tasting Trail

Morning:

• Tour the Arran Distillery in Lochranza (kids welcome in the visitor centre).

• Visit Lochranza Castle – atmospheric ruins by the shore, perfect for imaginative play and family photos.
  
  

Afternoon:

• Picnic by Lochranza Bay, often home to red deer.

• Stop at the Arran Cheese Shop and Arran Sense of Scotland in Brodick

Evening:

• Optional: Catch some live music at a local pub or community hall if available.
  
  

Day 5: Lamlash & Departure

Morning:

• Visit Lamlash – take the boat to Holy Isle if time allows (gentle walking trails, spiritual retreat centre, ponies).

• Enjoy a last brunch at The Drift Inn or The Old Pier Café.
  
  

Afternoon:

• Browse final souvenirs at Arran Art Gallery or The Bay Kitchen & Stores.
  
  

Head back to Brodick for the return ferry, hopefully with lots of happy memories.
