Oban Saints 2010s delivered a first class performance as they secured a well-deserved victory over United Sports at the community pitch at Oban High School last Sunday.
The young Saints asserted their dominance from the start, creating a few half chances.
The breakthrough came when Leon MacLean’s precise delivery found Ciaron MacNab, who raced clear before calmly slotting the ball home to open the scoring.
The partnership between MacLean and MacNab flourished again, as MacLean’s free kick caused chaos in the United box, resulting in MacNab doubling Saints’ advantage with a clinical finish.
Before the half time whistle, MacNab completed his hat -trick in style, latching on to another well-executed pass from MacLean before confidently finding the back of the net, leaving the visitors with a mountain to climb in the second half.
The relentless onslaught continued after the break, with MacLean’s set-piece expertise once again proving instrumental in the next goal. This time, his free kick was expertly flicked into the path of Finlay MacCallum by Lyam Fox, who made no mistake in extending Saints’ lead.
The visitors pulled a goal back with ten minutes remaining and even a late penalty couldn’t alter the final outcome of the game with the Saints’ defence holding firm to secure all three points in a 4-2 victory.
Cairon MacNab rightfully earned the man of the match award, showcasing his predatory instincts and relentless determination throughout the game.
The boys are brimming with confidence following this excellent result and they now turn their attention to the eagerly anticipated quarter-final clash away to Pollok in the West of Scotland Regional Cup this Saturday, March 23.
