Pupils at Castlehill Primary School have been recognised for their environmental efforts after completing a series of workshops run by The GRAB Trust’s Beaches and Marine Litter Project (BMLP).
The school earned a BMLP Award following 12 workshops delivered since the start of 2026, with P6 pupils receiving a special class award in recognition of their participation and enthusiasm.
Activities included storytelling, drawing and outdoor learning sessions focused on the impact of litter on marine wildlife.
P1 pupils learned about native sea creatures including seals, leatherback turtles, basking sharks and herons before creating artwork inspired by the sessions.
As part of the programme finale, P6 pupils visited Machrihanish Beach, where they carried out a beach litter survey and took part in a Science of Green Health and Wellbeing workshop.
Kerry MacKay, Beaches and Marine Litter Project education worker, said: “We were very lucky with the weather and had a beautiful day. What better way to relax, learn how to look after ourselves and nature while in a beautiful place in the sun, running the sand through your fingers?”
She presented the school with its award in recognition of its dedication to promoting environmental awareness and taking action to help protect the planet.
