Last week was Road Safety Week, and Oban’s emergency services were out in the town to remind people how to properly secure car seats.
A properly secured car seat is the difference between life and death, but many parents are not aware of the proper procedure.
So the fire service, alongside Oban’s police, have taken on the task of teaching the people.
"You’ve got the R129 and the R44 type of car seats," fireman Colin Maclean Flemming explained, "and in certain parts of Europe 44’s are illegal.
"So it’s important to make sure people know that, and that if it’s not fitted properly it can be the difference between life and death.
"There are certain ways a seatbelt supposed to be put in the back of the car seat which changes based on the child’s height, and if it’s put in the wrong way, it will be inoperative."
Station Commander Gordon Curran said: "If you can get access to the fire service guys like Colin and Gerry who are really well versed on these things, absolutely try them, but if you cannot, follow the instructions as vigilantly as you can.
"In the winter months it’s important to keep up the upkeep of your car, remember to do you checks, your tires your levels your screen wash, and don’t take any chances.
"Make sure to take the time to get the snow off your car, because it can fly off and hit the car behind you, don’t be tempted to skip that for quickness.
"There’s a lot of good advice out there from Road Safety Week. So take the time to read, whether it’s on social media or printed, whatever is available."
Oban Community Fire Station will be hosting a free Road Safety Hubs from 7-8.30pm on Tuesday December 2.
