Whisky Galore! is a well-loved comedy following the antics of the islanders of Great Todday and Little Todday bereft of their favourite tipple thanks to war rationing.
Benderloch and North Connel Drama Club are bringing James Scotland’s delightful script to life on March 6 at 7.30pm, and March 7, at 2.30pm and 7.30pm, in the Studio Theatre in Oban’s Corran Halls.
There are plenty of characters - young and old, delightful and dodgy - making up this two-act play, the first full length play by the drama club in some years.
The scene is set and narrated along the way by Lyle Kennedy as Duncan Ban Macroon.
There are two young couples, played by Oban High School pupils Toby Wilson, Ishbel MacKay, Harry Whittle and Bethan Neil, who are desperate to get married, but thwarted by a father, who doesn’t want to lose his free labour around the croft and Post Office, and a controlling mother.
Meanwhile the islanders, including Biffer, Jockey and Father MacAlister, are mourning the absence of their favourite tipple while deftly trying to avoid home guard duty under the watchful eye of Captain Waggett.
Fold in a spy, a shipful of whisky aground off the islands and ceilidh and you have the recipe for an entertaining evening out.
Tickets are fast selling out for Friday night and the club has included the Saturday matinee for those who are less inclined to go out on an evening - so get your tickets now from www.ticketsource.co.uk/bncdc and don’t miss out on this entertaining production of Whisky Galore!
