Uncertainty continues to surround the future of The Original Factory Shop (TOFS) in Campbeltown as the store begins a “closing down” sale following the company’s move into administration.
In a series of posts on its Facebook page over the past week, the Main Street retailer confirmed that it is preparing for possible closure, although no final date has yet been set.
The posts advertise discounts of up to 30 per cent across most departments, with deeper reductions on selected lines, as stock is cleared, while confirming that no final trading date has yet been set.
In a message addressed directly to customers, staff wrote: “The company has now officially entered administration proceedings. While there is a tiny chance that we could be saved, we are preparing for the worst. So – we are having a closing down sale. We don’t know when the last day will be. This will be decided at a later date, could be days/weeks.”
The statement also asked customers to be mindful of staff, describing them as “a wonderful team” continuing to work despite uncertainty over their future.
The update follows the announcement last month that TOFS had entered administration, putting more than 1,200 jobs at risk across 140 stores nationwide.
The discount retailer was bought by Modella Capital in February 2025, but the firm confirmed in January that TOFS, along with jewellery chain Claire’s, had entered insolvency proceedings.
At the time, Modella cited low Christmas footfall, weak consumer confidence and rising operating costs as factors behind the decision, describing both chains as “highly vulnerable”.
It remains unclear whether the Campbeltown branch could yet be saved through a sale to a new owner, or whether it will close permanently once stock has been cleared. Administrators Interpath Advisory are overseeing the process.
When approached in-store this week, staff said they were unable to comment on a potential closing date or the number of employees affected.
An enquiry has also been sent to The Original Factory Shop’s media team seeking clarification on the situation locally, but no response has been received at the time of publication.
