Inchree Barn Project has been awarded £47,000 towards the next stage of development.
This latest funding has come from Crown Estate Scotland, administered by Foundation Scotland, and will cover most of the costs of the next stage of architectural drawings.
Believed to be one of the oldest buildings in the area, the barn is located next to the Forestry Land Scotland car park at Inchree, where locals and visitors access the falls and mountain paths.
The idea is to develop a flexible building to be used as a café/gallery/event space.
Nether Lochaber Community Association (NLCA) Trustee Sharon Pearson said: “We are so excited to receive this good news and are happy that the funder can see how important and special this project is.
“We look forward to working on the building plans and encourage our local community to get involved as much as possible.
"It is vital that we create a community business that serves its people and provides opportunities for a wide range of residents.”
NLCA trustees and project officer are running several events over the next couple of months and are asking members of the community to go along and let them know what the barn could become for them.
On Saturday March 30 they are launching a new community questionnaire by holding a walking engagement event, meeting at the barn at 10.30am. There will be refreshments provided at Roam West from midday.
This is supported by the Highlands and Islands Climate Hub Action Fund and all Nether Lochaber residents are invited. Please get in touch with NLCA via their social media or email to let them know you are coming.
The first of the fundraising events will take place on Sunday May 26 when NLCA is teaming up with its neighbour Vertical Descents to run a mass canyon.
Anyone who fancies helping them make a splash and can gather at least £100 worth of sponsors, are aged 8 or over and can swim, should get in touch with NLCA to register.
This will be a great day with stalls, food, and entertainment, so there will be something for everyone.
If you are interested in taking part in either event, wish donate to the project, or get involved generally email project officer lucy@netherlochaber.org.uk or message the group on Instagram or Facebook @theinchreebarnproject.
NLCA will continue to update its website, community noticeboards and social media accounts on the progress for those that cannot attend the events in person.
NLCA trustees send thanks to their current funders mentioned above, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Inspiring Scotland, the Scottish Land Fund, the Nether Lochaber Community Council, and finally Forestry Land Scotland for their ongoing support.
