A petition to Save Ardrossan Harbour by a group of the same name has been launched on Arran.
The mainland-based Save Ardrossan Harbour group has been campaigning for the redevelopment of the harbour which has fallen into disrepair while discussions to upgrade it have stalled.
The petition urges the Scottish Government “to begin the promised, necessary, urgent and required refurbishment and redevelopment of Ardrossan harbour to accommodate the new vessels, Glen Sannox and Glen Rosa, to continue the vital, near 200 year-old lifeline service between Ardrossan and Brodick”.
It also calls for “transparent public discussions with all stakeholders, including Save Ardrossan Harbour”.
Additionally, it is seeking a financial support package to assist with the social and economic development for the communities of Ardrossan and Arran which “are suffering economic and reputational damage as a result of the continued delayed works at Ardrossan Harbour”.
Copies of the petition will be available to sign at Brodick Library and in shops and outlets throughout the island.
