Inveraray Carpet Bowls Club hosted the annual Alan Cameron Open Doubles on Saturday, February 28, in the Campbell Room at the Inveraray Inn.
The event is hosted in memory of one of the club’s key members and saw 32 pairs travel from across Argyll and beyond to take part in the popular competition, which lasted almost eight hours.
With six tables in play, including two kindly borrowed from Cairndow Bowling Club with the assistance of Semples of Inveraray, the straight knockout event took just under eight hours to complete.
Matches were played over seven ends with eight bowls, producing a series of closely fought contests throughout the tournament.
This year’s final was contested by two pairs from Acharn on Loch Tay, who have faithfully supported the event for the past four years.
Emerging victorious were father-and-son duo David Nicol (skipper) and Gavin Nicol, who overcame Graham Milroy (skipper) and Lorna Watson in a competitive final.
Milroy and Watson defeated the Inveraray pairing of Scott MacIntyre and Archie MacColl-Smith in the semi-final. Whilst, David and Gavin Nicol secured their place in the final by overcoming Angus MacGillivray and Kimberly MacGillivray.
The winning pair lifted the Alan Cameron Trophy, along with £200 in prize money and two bottles of malt whisky generously provided by sponsors Loch Fyne Whiskies.
A successful raffle was also held during the event, with generous prize donations from a number of local businesses including Fynest Fish, Brambles of Inveraray, The Seafood Shack, The George Hotel, Samphire, Loch Fyne Oysters and Fyne Ales. The club extends its sincere thanks for their continued support.
Looking ahead, the Dalmally Open Doubles will take place on March 21 at Dalmally Community Centre. To enter, contact Angus on 07485 788721.
Inveraray Carpet Bowls Club will also host its Charity Open Triples on October 24 at the Inveraray Inn, with further details to be announced closer to the time.
