Former Inveraray Shinty Club player and manager Andy Watt has been co-opted onto the Board of the Camanachd Association.
Watt brings a wealth of strategic leadership experience as well as a lifelong connection and passion for shinty.
Andy played for Inveraray during the most successful period in the club’s modern history, including winning the Camanachd Cup in 2004.
Since retiring from playing, he served as first team manager from 2023 to 2024 and acted as Chair of the club for the past four years. In this role, he has been instrumental in shaping and delivering the club’s five-year plan and wider club development.
Andy has also captained and managed the South under-21 side and represented Scotland at both under-21 and senior levels.
His knowledge and understanding of the game has also seen him co-commentate on a number of shinty finals for BBC Alba over the past three years.
Professionally, Andy has served in the Fire Service for over 33 years, progressing through the ranks to be appointed Deputy Chief Officer of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service in November 2024. A senior manager within the service since 2017, he has developed extensive expertise in strategic leadership and management, as well as change management and corporate governance.
Andy has also chaired the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Anthony Nolan Partnership since 2014, and in 2017 he was awarded the Queen’s Fire Service Medal in recognition of his work with the partnership recruiting school pupils onto the stem cell register.
Internationally, he currently serves as Vice Chair of the NFPA Fire and Emergency Services Board in the United States.
