The sports hall at Campbeltown Grammar School was buzzing with energy as young athletes from across the area gathered last Saturday to compete in the Kintyre Primary Schools Badminton Competition.
There was a great response to the competition, with more than 50 entries from local primary schools.
The standard of play across Primary 6 and Primary 7 in particular was high, with several keenly contested games keeping spectators on the edge of their seats.
A number of players were taking part in their first competition and performed exceptionally well, showing great promise for the future of the sport in Kintyre.
At the end of a successful day’s play, the medals and awards were presented by Carole Ann Powers.
Singles:
P4/5 winner: Alasdair Ralston; runner up: Ollie Miller.
P6/7 winner: Thomas Millar; runner up: Harry Ronald.
Doubles:
Girls’ doubles winners: Isla Graham and Kate MacKinnon; runners up: Rowan Brodie and Quinn Anderson.
Boys’ doubles winners: Thomas Millar and Harry Ronald; runners up: Robbie Ramsay and Max Grumoli.
Mixed doubles winners: Thomas Millar and Robyn Wright; runners up: Robbie Cox and Kate MacKinnon.
Other awards (chosen by umpires):
Most improved: James McPhee, Pola Skibinska, Lola Lafferty, Calvin Scally.
Good effort: Robyn McCallum, Isaac Sinclair, Mirren Dickson, Harrison Ward.
Good sportsmanship: Rogan McMurchy, Fraser Wilson, James McAllister, Sophie Stevenson.
The players are now preparing for their next competition – the Argyll and Bute Schools Championships, which will be held at Lochgilphead Joint Campus on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
