MAKI U15 Girls - a combined team of Mid Argyll, Campbeltown/Kintyre, and Islay players - were faced by a tough Greenock side at the Ropework Park on Sunday March 1.
It was a slow start for the girls as they got into the game, allowing the opposition a couple of tries in the first 15 minutes.
The MAKI side got their heads in the game and began making hard hits and pushing Greenock back, however, the visitors still managed to secure more tries.
The last few minutes of the first half saw the home side enter Greenock’s half for the first time, after a strong run from Louise Ralston.
Co-Captain Maisy Graham received the ball and almost got the ball over the line, but unfortunately was just short.

MAKI were awarded a penalty for a high tackle, and Belle Rusden sent the ball along the hands towards the left wing.
From a ruck, the ball was passed to Abbie Goodfellow who almost secured the team’s first try, but was unfortunately pushed into touch. This marked half time, with the score sitting 0-48.
Into the second half, the girls started strong, holding Greenock off for the first 10 minutes, before the visitors managed to score their ninth try of the day.
This sent the score to over 50-0, automatically taking it into a ‘development game’.
Taking the pressure off the team seemed to improve their performance, as they kept their heads up and attacked Greenock’s try line, led by strong runs from Morgan Rossouw, Ciara Bignal and Kate Mclean.
Though their efforts weren’t rewarded by a score, the whole team put their all into the game and it was a very worthwhile experience for them.
Kate Mclean and Ciara Bignal were awarded Players of the Match by the coaches and captains, and Maisy Graham was awarded Player of the Match by the opposition.
