The community turned out in force for a prize bingo night organised by Campbeltown’s Co-op supermarket on December 4, filling Argyll Bowling Club to capacity.
It was eyes down at 8pm, as players grabbed their dabbers and helped to raise £1,845 – every penny of which will go straight back into supporting local groups, charities and events.
Fundraisers like this are essential, as the Campbeltown store does not receive a central “donation pot” from head office. Instead, the store relies on events like raffles and prize bingos organised by staff to raise the funds necessary for the supermarket to provide the many raffle prizes and community donations for which they are regularly asked.
In the past three weeks alone, Campbeltown’s Co-op has given away more than £500 in gift cards and stock as raffle prizes.
The recent fundraiser’s success was fuelled by generous prize donations from Co-op staff and a long list of local businesses, as well as the volunteers who helped run the event.

The supermarket team thanked the following for donating prizes: Leighanne Powell, The Royal Hotel, Watt Whisky, Campbeltown Motor Company, Eilidh Powell, Springbank Distillers, Glen Scotia Distillers, Bartek’s Bistro, Bronzi Bay, Numero Dix, Olfactory, Balloon Lab, Helen Gilchrist, The Kintyre Larder, McKellars, and Sweetie Galore.
They also thanked Argyll Bowling Club for hosting, Stephen for calling the numbers, and Sammy for keeping the bar running.
The Campbeltown Co-op staff are already busy planning more events to ensure they can keep supporting the causes that matter most to the community.
