Sports clubs and schools around Lochaber have joined friends and relatives in paying tribute to the three teenagers killed in the fatal crash on the A830 on Thursday evening.
Named locally as Fergus Ward, Lewis Knox and Jordan Cameron, the three friends are reported to have been returning to Fort William from Mallaig at around 11pm when the white Ford Fiesta they were travelling in left the road.
All three, the driver and two passengers, were confirmed dead at the scene.
All three boys are thought to have attended Lochaber High School with Fergus and Lewis both being members of Fort William Shinty Club and Jordan part of the Fort William FC Under 18s set-up.
The region was still in shock on Saturday but both teams made the decision to play their scheduled fixtures in honour of the boys. They and other sports teams across the region and beyond held a minutes silence before their games.
In a Facebook tribute Fort William Shinty Club wrote: "Having developed right through the youth ranks Fergus and Lewis were an integral part of the current u17s squad.
"Both boys have deep family connections to the club.
"All three boys will be greatly missed by their families, friends and the wider community. May they rest in peace."
In their tribute to Jordon Fort William FC wrote: "Jordan was apart of our Title Winning Under-18 side last season, and was a major part of the team as they lifted the trophy at the end.
He was such a terrific footballer who came through our youth system for many years and also played for our reserve side in the West Highland League."
Jordan’s former coaches at U-16s and U-18s also paid tribute to a fantastic player and person.
"Jordan was a very talented footballer and a pleasure to coach over the years we had him at 16s and 18s.
"He will be deeply missed by us and everyone who knew him. We are sending our condolences to Jordan’s family and also to the families of Lewis and Fergus."
The club added: "The outpouring of love and support from the local community to the boys’ friends and families has been nothing short of outstanding, and shows how amazing this town is when we all come together. The boys were hugely popular in the area and will be missed throughout Lochaber."
Friends have set up a memorial at the fence of King George V Park, next to Lochaber Leisure centre. Sporting items, toys, flowers and messages have all been left while lights entwined in the fencing ensure the tribute is lit up at night.
Elsewhere Lochaber High School are encouraging any pupils struggling to come to terms with the loss to contact its Guidance team.
From Monday 1 September, a number of local services will also be available to provide extra support in school fo young people, parents/carers, and staff.
This includes organisations such as Lochaber Hope and Archie’s Child Bereavement Service, who will be offering drop-in sessions within the school for anyone who may wish to access them.
"We are committed to doing everything we can to ensure you and your family feel supported and cared for," added a LHS spokesperson.
"In times of sadness, the strength of our community shines through the compassion and kindness we show each other. Please know that we are here for you and your children."
Road Policing officers are still appealing for information into the cause of the accident.
Inspector Donnie MacKinnon said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the people who died as a result of this crash.
"Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash and hasn’t already spoken to officers to get in touch.
"I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area and who may have dash cam footage which could assist to contact us."
Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 3941 of August 28 2025.
