The last of Scotland’s eight regional list results, for the Highlands and Islands, has been declared by The Highland Council in Inverness.
The results came in just before 1.30am on Saturday May 9. Reform UK has two MSPs (Vic Currie and Max Bannerman), the Greens have two (Ariane Burgess and Kristopher Leask), the Conservatives have one (Tim Eagle), the Lib Dems have one (Morven-May MacCallum), and the SNP have one (Maree Todd).
There were lots of bleary eyes and tired folk around the centre in Inverness waiting for the returning officer to declare. It was the last to declare - the same as in the last election. Questions were asked about why it took so long. It was 15 hours since the ballot boxes were opened.
The result determined the final make-up of the Scottish Parliament, and which party took second place in the election. It’s significant because it determines not just the seating arrangements at Holyrood, but also who gets to ask the first question at First Minister’s Questions.

The regional list result for West Scotland was declared earlier in the day. Labour takes two seats (Neil Bibby and Katy Clark), Reform takes two (Malcolm Offord and David Smith), the Scottish Greens take two (Ross Greer and Cara McKee), and the Conservatives one (Russell Findlay).
