The A85 is closed in both directions following a head on collision between two vehicles.
Traffic has quickly built up into queues described as "utterly ridiculous" by witnesses.
The line stretches all the way from one end of the village and continues along the A85. Traffic is worsened by rush hour, and the use of Connel Bridge as a diversion for another accident on the A82.
The crash occurred shortly before 5pm at the edge of Taynuilt.
Police and ambulances are on the scene.
A statement from Traffic Scotland said: "The A85 is currently closed in both directions at Taynuilt due to a road traffic incident. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route at this time and allow extra time for their journey."
The condition of drivers and passengers is not known at this time.
Police Scotland said: "The A85 north of Taynuilt is closed in both directions as emergency services deal with a road crash involving two vehicles.
"Arrangements are being made to uplift the vehicles. Please avoid the area."
Police were called around 4.45pm.
The Scottish Ambulance service have been contacted for comment.
