Thirty-three golfers braved brisk winds at Dunaverty Golf Club last Saturday to compete for the Mersey Police Cup.
With occasional showers adding to the challenge, scoring proved difficult, and no player managed to break nett par.
The best nett score of the day came from Craig MacMillan, who claimed the title by one shot from Stuart McLachlan.
Alastair McConnachie recorded the best scratch score with an excellent 70.
Results: 1 Craig MacMillan 79-13=66, 2 Stuart McLachlan 82-15=67, 3 Graeme McLennan 82-13=69 (bih). Lowest gross: Alistair McConnachie 70.
On Sunday, 27 players competed for the May Medal. The wind eased slightly but was still strong enough to make golf very difficult.
Neil Brodie continued his fine form following his victory in the Doyen Open the previous week, returning a nett 65 – his best score for some time – to take first place.
Jake MacMillan produced some superb golf to claim the scratch prize with a gross 68.
Results: 1 Neil Brodie 70-5=65, 2 Don Hardman 76-10=66 (bih), 3 Jake MacMillan 68-2=66 (bih). Lowest gross: Jake MacMillan 68.
A club spokesperson said: “Thanks as always to Moyra Paterson, Eve Gaughan and staff at The Putt Stop for looking after everyone, and to greenkeepers Jonathan Barbour and Campbell MacBrayne for a course that is improving daily and in great condition for the time of year.”
