Dalraida Vets have issued a warning after the deadly-to-dogs water hemlock plant has been found washed up in large quantities on the shore of Loch Gilp at Ardrishaig and Lochgilphead.
Police Scotland have also warned members of the public not to touch the poisonous plant and to keep animals away from it.
Dalriada Vets said on their social media: “Please keep all dogs away from these areas, as they can be attracted by their carrot-like smell and taste.
“These are extremely poisonous if eaten by dogs, causing rapid onset seizures which are usually fatal.”
The leaves are somewhat wilted but the root looks not unlike parsnips.
It is understood the plant, also known as ’dead man’s fingres’ has been washed up on other parts of Argyll’s shores, including Kintyre and Islay.
Members of the public should be vigilant when walking their dogs on the area’s beaches and seashores.
