Kyles Athletic 0 Lochaber 4
Lochaber marked their return to shinty’s topflight with a win over Kyles Athletic.
The match was switched from Spean Bridge to the Dunoon Stadium and Lochaber took early control with Conor Sweeney on 10 minutes, Findlay MacDonald just three minutes later and Stuart Callison on 28 minutes giving them a 3-0 lead.
Martin Johnstone competed the scoring on 52 minutes.
Lochaber manager Ally Ferguson said: "From our perspective, it was a good start to the season, a good result, four goals and a clean sheet and we managed to get through the match without any injuries which was all very pleasing.
"Kyles fought hard and the final scoreline probably didn’t truly reflect the game in full.
"Unfortunately, Will Cowie (Kyles) suffered a leg injury, thought to be a twisted or dislocated knee and an ambulance had to be called. Everyone at Lochaber hopes the injury is not too serious and we wish Will a speedy recovery."
Lochaber are on the road this weekend when they play Newtonmore at The Eilan.
Kingussie 3 Skye Camanachd 0
Kingussie’s quest for a sixth successive title started with a win over Skye Camanachd at The Dell.
There were just three first half minutes remaining when Kingussie had the chance to take the lead from the penalty spot.
However, Zander Michie’s spot-hit crashed off the crossbar, but Ruaridh Anderson darted wide on the right to regain possession before finding Dyan Borthwick and his low shot on the turn found the net.
The impressive Thomas Borthwick added a second on 52 minutes with a smart finish from the right and Ruaridh Anderson sealed the victory following substitute Savio Genini’s free-hit just four minutes from time.
Skye boss Kenny MacLeod said: "That was encouraging for our first game.
"You could argue it wasn’t a 3-0 game but Kingussie’s finishing for all three goals was very good and that proved to be the difference.
Kingussie visit Kinlochshiel on Saturday with Skye at home to Fort William.
Col Glen 0 Kinlochshiel 3
It was a historic day for Col Glen as they played their first ever match in the Mowi Premiership and visitors Kinlochshiel marked the occasion by presenting their hosts with a commemorative plaque.
Col Glen were rocked by the news that talented defender Cally Mcnaughton could miss the entire season with an ankle injury whilst Shiel were without Scottish international Archie MacRae.
Shiel went ahead on 12 minutes when Ali Nixon shot low into the goal before substitute Jay MacRae bundled the ball home on 34 minutes to make it 2-0 at the break.
The returning Oliver MacRae got the third with a low drive across the keeper just five minutes after the hour.
The home side were denied a goal when Kinlochshiel goalkeeper Josh Grant saved a Scott MacVicar penalty.
Shiel manager Willie MacRae said: "It was a long trek and we made hard work of it at times, but it was good to make a winning start.
"Col Glen don’t mess about, and no one will come here and just turn them over.
"Jonnie MacAskill was our best player, closely followed by Ollie MacRae and Keith MacRae who was good at wing back."
This Saturday Kinlochshiel play Newtonmore at Rèaraig.
