After broadcasting last Tuesday evening's weather from Machrihanish, Sean Batty and Philip Petrie spent the next morning with the Dalintober Eco-Committee, learning all about its recent fifth Eco-Schools Scotland Green Flag success.
The Eco-Schools Scotland programme is a set of seven elements that are used to plan action on environmental issues and that form the criteria for the Green Flag Award.
To earn a Green Flag Award, schools follow the elements as follows: they set up an eco committee, conduct an environmental review, have an environment action plan, conduct measuring, such as using tally charts of litter, link to the curriculum, link to the community and have a school eco code.
The programme, is funded by the Scottish government and was developed by Keep Scotland Beautiful.
It starts in the classroom and expands to the whole school, eventually fostering change in the community at large.
