A pump track in Tayinloan has been granted planning permission by council officials – with those behind the project saying they are “absolutely buzzing”.
The village’s youth club applied for planning permission for the structure next to the village’s playpark, adjacent to the community hall.
Thirteen expressions of support were received by Argyll and Bute Council from the public, with no objections, and planning permission has now been granted.
A council official said in a handling report: “Planning permission is sought for the erection of a community pump track on land within the existing playing field in Tayinloan, adjacent to the A83.
“The playing field is allocated as an open space protection area (OSPA) within the local development plan and is located to the south-east of Tayinloan village within the West Kintyre (coast) local landscape area.
“The proposals involve the construction of a 1,800 sq m pump track. The works include excavation and formation of a 110m track, including bumps and berms of varying heights (between 0.4m and 1.5m) with a minimum width of 2m.
“This shaped area will be surfaced with asphalt, with painted lines following the pump track edges to highlight lines of priority and delineate the pump track route. Turf will be planted between the main track’s lines.
“The area outside of a 1.2m turf strip around the pump track will be wildflower seeded to help enhance biodiversity and provide a great aesthetic to the facility.
“The track would be linked to the village hall parking area by a path. Surface water from the track will be attenuated within the site to avoid ponding on the interior areas.”
The report added: “The proposal would have no adverse impacts on the amenity of surrounding occupiers, taking account of its proximity to residential dwellings and the existing compatibility of the uses. Thirteen letters of support have been received for the scheme.”
Reacting to the decision, Aaron O’Hanlon, one of the youth club leaders behind the project, said: “We’re absolutely buzzing that the pump track project has officially received planning approval.
“Thank you so much to everyone who supported the application, submitted comments, donated, fundraised and backed the project from day one.
“The dream of bringing the first pump track in Argyll to Tayinloan is one step closer!”
