Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal made a flying visit to Mid Argyll during a brief official visit to Argyll, accompanied by her husband Sir Timothy Laurence.
Princess Anne started the afternoon’s engagements on Monday at Inveraray Castle, where she was greet by Argyll and Bute Lord-Lieutenant Jane MacLeod, who accompanied HRH on her tour, and Their Graces The Duke and Duchess of Argyll, Torquhil Campbell and Eleanor Campbell.
The Princess then met various members of staff involved with the daily running of the castle, including archivist Alison Diamond, visitor experiences manager Emma Haley, head guide Kenny Whyte, assistant archivist Donald MacDougall and dressmaker dressmaker (Leading Ladies Exhibition) Flora Swietlicki, while being shown a number of exhibits and rooms.

After lunch HRH left for Auchindrain Township Museum, near Furnace, where she was met by Depute Provost and museum trustee Councillor Jan Brown, Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Argyll and Bute Andrew Campbell, Argyll and Bute Council chief executive Pippa Milne and other volunteers and was given a history of the township, its renovation and a tour of some of the buildings.

The Dalmally-based charity Mary’s Meals, which feeds three million children in schools around the world, was next, where Princess Anne met founder Magnus Macfarlane-Barrow and the tin shed where it all started.
HRH’s final stop was at Cruachan Power Station at Loch Awe, where she unveiled a plaque commemorating the station’s 60th anniversary.
Princess Anne is known to be a regular unofficial visitor to Argyll and the West Highlands in the summer months, starting when the Royal Family used to visit the area during their summer holidays on board the Royal Yacht Britannia.
