The weather continued to affect the shinty programme on Saturday April 11.
Mowi Premiership
Oban Camanachd P
Kinlochshiel P
Oban Camanachd and Kinlochshiel were left idle when their 1pm throw up at Mossfield was called off on Saturday morning.
The postponement adds to Oban Camanachd’s stop-start beginning to the season.
Assistant manager Iain MacMillan said: “It’s been very frustrating with the recent postponements, but there was just way too much surface water on Mossfield for the game to go ahead.
“There was more rain forecast so we had to make a call, and we felt we couldn’t take any chances given Kinlochshiel’s long journey from Balmacara.
“From our point of view, it’s not ideal as we just can’t get into a flow of games which is something that we would have liked at this stage in the season.
“The only positive from the postponement is that the break gives Gary McKerracher another week to work towards full fitness, especially with Lochaber in mind on Saturday.
“Ross Macmillan would have missed the Kinlochshiel game following the birth of his daughter the day before and hopefully he will be available for the trip to Lochaber.
“Everyone at Oban Camanachd would like to wish Ross, Niamh and their family all the best following the birth of their beautiful daughter.”
Lewis Cameron’s return from injury has been a real boost for Oban Camanachd and he said: “It’s been a really disappointing couple of seasons with my injury, missing the majority of a season and a half.
“I’ve managed to put that all behind me now though and I’m eager to get on the pitch try and get a run of games and help the team as much as possible.”
Cameron is looking forward to the rest of the season and added: “We want to be challenging at all fronts the year.
“I think it’s important that we start to gather some momentum during the next few weeks, whether it be cup competitions or the league.”
This weekend, Oban Camanachd, sponsored by TSL Contractors, play Lochaber in the league at Spean Bridge.
Kinlochshiel are scheduled to meet Caberfeidh in what will be their first home match of the season at Rèaraig.
Kyles Athletic P
Newtonmore P
The match between Kyles Athletic and Newtonmore at Tighnabruaich was postponed due to an unplayable pitch.
Defender Jamie Forgrieve will now see his one-match suspension carry forward to when Kyles Athletic travel north to play Skye in the league on Saturday.
League leaders Newtonmore welcome newly promoted Col Glen.
Mowi National Division
Beauly 5
Oban Celtic 0
Beauly beat Oban Celtic 5-0 at Braeview Park.
Beauly’s Louie MacLellan scored twice in the first half on 31 and 45 minutes, with Hector MacLennan netting in-between times on 40 minutes to make it 3-0 at half-time.
Hector MacLennan got his second a minute into the second half and Euan Mccormick made it 5-0 just 5 minutes from time.
Oban Celtic co-manager Cammy Mccallum said: “We were really struggling for numbers last week due to injuries and boys just being unable to travel so we went north with a bit of a makeshift side.
“The boys that stepped in did well and the whole team fought hard throughout the game but Beauly were just a bit stronger than us.
“Gabriel Tidser returned to centre which was a great boost for us but he is still not 100% fit after his foot injury so he rolled on and off during the 90 minutes.
Alex Dunnings had to drop in at the back and led by example with a great performance.
“Although the scoreline might not suggest it, there were lots of positives for us to take all over the pitch and hopefully we are starting to find our feet at this level.
“We go again this week against Bute at home so fingers crossed we can get a few bodies back in.”
Oban Celtic, sponsored by The Oban Inn, continue in league action on Saturday when they play Bute at Mossfield.
Beauly travel to Kilmallie, also in the league.
Glasgow Mid Argyll P
Lovat P
Glasgow Mid Argyll’s clash with Lovat at Peterson Park was called off on Saturday morning due to an unplayable pitch.
Glasgow Mid Argyll visit Glenurquhart in a league fixture on Saturday whilst Lovat are at home to Inveraray.
HIS Sutherland Cup - First Round
Stirling Camanachd 1
Bute 8
The Bute second team were too strong for Stirling Camanachd, winning 8-1 at The Haws, Bridge of Allan.
Louie McDonald ensured the Islanders took early control with a four-goal spree on 7, 12, 14 and 30 minutes whilst and Ewan McMillan’s effort on 37 minutes made it 5-0 at the turnaround.
John Fraser countered on 74 minutes, but Bute extended their lead further through Stuart Stirling on 81 minutes, Lloyd Robertson a minute later and John MacIntyre a minute into stoppage time.
Mowi South Division 1
Ardnamurchan 2
Aberdour 1
Alan Palmer’s double helped Ardnamurchan beat Aberdour 2-1 at Ardnamurchan High School.
After a scoreless first 45minutes, Alan Palmer put the home side ahead just 4 minutes into the second half.
Calum Murray levelled on the hour, but Ardnamurchan weren’t to be denied as Alan Palmer got his second with just a couple of minutes remaining.
Veteran referee Deek Cameron took charge of the game having recently come out of retirement to help with the current referee shortage.
Lochside Rovers P
Glasgow Mid Argyll P
The match between Lochside Rovers and the Glasgow Mid Argyll juniors was called off on Saturday morning due to an unplayable pitch at Ganavan.
Lochside Rovers assistant manager Duncan MacMillan said: “I was out at Ganavan on Saturday morning and it was very wet.”
This Saturday, Lochside have a Bullough Cup first round tie against Uddingston at The Stepps Playing Fields whilst GMA host their Kyles Athletic counterparts in the league.
Duncan MacMillan added: “We’ll hopefully have pretty much same squad as last Saturday against Uddingston who are going well on South 2.
Lewis Buchanan would have missed the GMA game, but he will probably be available again.
The big disappointment from Saturday’s postponement is that Scott MacMillan’s two-match suspension means he will not only miss Uddingston this Saturday, but he’ll also miss an important league game against Ardnamurchan the week after.
Inveraray P
Kyles Athletic P
The match between the Inveraray juniors and the Kyles Athletic juniors at The Winterton will be rescheduled.
Mowi South Division 2

Strachur-Dunoon go second in the table with games in hand after defeating the Aberdour seconds 5-0 in their 1pm throw up at Silversands.
Strachur-Dunoon streaked ahead in the first half with Brandon Wilson getting the opener on 10 minutes and Spencer Thoms getting a second just 5 minutes after.
Brandon Wilson got his second on 26 minutes and Roddy Cairns made it 4-0 on the half-hour mark.
Roddy Cairns got his second with the only goal of the second half on 65 minutes.
Kilmory 2
Uddingston 0
Kilmory opted to take a 5-point deduction and drop down a division after finishing fourth in Mowi South Division 1 last season.
The move was intended to help them introduce some younger players into their side and after just to games, they have now cut that deficit to a single point after defeating league leaders Uddingston 2-0 in their 2pm throw up at MacRae Park.
Niall Shaw followed up his five-goal spree in Kilmory’s 10-1 victory over the Aberdour second team in their opening fixture with goals on 25 and 38 minutes to win this one.
Kilmory’s Craig Gilmour was sent off by referee Ryan Stewart with a couple of minutes remaining.

While it’s always great to score as many as I can, the most important thing is taking the points, regardless of who gets on the scoresheet.
“My goal is to assist my team mates as much as they support me, helping us build goalscoring confidence across the entire team as after all, it’s goals that win games.”
Mowi South League
