One of the Highlands and Islands’ most popular plays, the classic Whisky Galore, is back in Oban, courtesy of Benderloch and North Connel Drama Club.
The local production of the popular tale first published in a 1947 novel of the same name tells the true story of when the cargo ship SS Politician ran aground in the Outer Hebrides.
She was carrying thousands of cases of whisky bound for delivery to America.
Due to wartime rationing, the Isle of Eriskay was dry on the water of life. So the islanders plundered the haul for themselves, avoiding the eyes of the authorities.
With a raft of comedic hijinx ensuing, the story wraps the whole thing up in a romance plot and a battle between the islanders and military.
The play adapts the story to the stage with charm, which the cast were eager to bring it back to town.
Whisky Galore is so popular locally that for a time a showing of the film adaptation was on daily in Oban’s cinema.
As proof of that popularity, all three shows of the new production completely sold out.
If you were not one of the lucky few to get a coveted ticket, fear not, as you can see a sneak peek below.
Director Michael Rowe said: "It’s a great comedy play, we haven’t done a full length play for a while so it was great to do one this year.
"This is a great choice for that full length play."
Asked what audiences can expect, he added: "All the usual hijinx! Great acting, we’ve got live music and a fantastic set.
"It should be jolly, funny jokes.
"We’ve been working on it since September and it’s gone really well."
Of course, Oban has recently seen a sunken ship story of its own, and while Michael was not fully caught up on the details, he did say "you do get these synchronicities with real life and plays, so it is quite timely!"
