Islanders and visitors are preparing for one of the island’s largest music festivals that takes place in Brodick next week.
Arran Rock and Blues Festival will be raising the roof at Ormidale Sports Park from Friday May 1 to Sunday May 3 with a line-up of professional, and some lesser-known but excellent, artists who will perform throughout the weekend.
Organised by Events Arran, this year’s festival will include Aynsley Lister, Gerry Jablonski and Blue Nation who recently won the UK Blues Challenge Emerging Act of the Year award, Jim Keilt, Dennis Smalley, Pete Parisetti, The Working Dogs, Ross Hunter and King Buddah among many others.
The first Arran Rock and Blues Festival, organised by Events Arran (formerly Lamlash Events), took place in Brodick Hall in 2018. It has since gone on to attract big names and a respectable local and visitor attendance under the leadership of the committee and Events Arran director, Jane Howe.

Music lover, Jane Howe who owns the Pierhead Tavern in Lamlash, has promoted grass-roots music with many amateur and traditional pub bands performing at her venue. Her ambition is to bring first class rock and blues artists to Arran to build up the music scene in reminiscence of the early days of the 1970s when bands such as Teargas, Thin Lizzy and Slade played on the island.
Along with all of the performances on the main arena at Ormidale Sports Park, Brodick Golf Club will be keeping everyone fed and a selection of acoustic and band sets will be performed there. Local and visiting vendors will also host stalls at the site for attendees to browse and shop.
Jane told the Banner: “With fine Arran food, beers and whisky featuring at the festival site, at the Brodick Golf Club and many other food providers in Brodick, this festival feast for the senses will delight music lovers, food lovers, whisky lovers, wildlife lovers and lovers of the Scottish island scenery in all its splendour.”

In addition to all of the talented performers, festival goers will be able to take part in guitar masterclasses where Aynsley Lister and Pete Parisetti will be demonstrating their skills and techniques that will inspire guitarists of all skill levels.
The festival line-up, and tickets to attend the events, can be found at www.arranrockandbluesfest.com where a daily schedule and biographies on the performing artists can also be found.
