Royal National Mòd winners Lochaber Gaelic Choir are tuning up for a very special event on Thursday May 21 when they host their first Spring Concert at the Fort William Railway Club.
The choir, directed by award-winning musician Mary Ann Kennedy, will be joined by some stellar friends including local star, BBC weatherman, Calum MacColl.
The concert itself takes the form of a new fundraising event which will help see the choir on their way to this year’s Royal National Mòd which takes place in Glasgow from from October 9 to 17.
They will be reprising some of their winning repertoire from 2025, unveiling some new songs for Mòd 2026, and enjoying some of the Gaelic choral world’s golden oldie favourites.
The licensed evening, which starts at 7.30pm, will also feature a raffle to boost the fundraising effort.
The choir’s Gaelic Reader, Carolyn Groat, said: "Even though we are a relatively new choir on the scene, it’s hard to believe this will be our first choir concert.
"We’re delighted that Calum, who has sung with us in the past, is able to join us for some tunes and maybe a song or two, so be ready to dance as well as join in with the choruses!"
The choir can boast many famous past connections, including their first conductor, Rachel Walker and Tidelines frontman Robert Robertson. Also stepping out from the choral ranks on the night will be former Silver Pendant winner, Shona MacQueen.
Lochaber Gaelic Choir are still celebrating their return to top form in 2025, when they lifted the coveted Margrat Duncan Trophy on home turf when the Mòd took place in Lochaber.
Their success was the icing on the cake for Lochaber Gaels, with the event being hailed as one of the most successful ever, and winning Event of the Year at the coveted Scots Trad Music Awards.
Tickets for the night, priced £10 with free admission for children, are available via Eventbrite: tinyurl.com/lochaberconcert26, from the choir via lochaberdistrictgaelicchoir@outlook.com or on the door on the night.
