Lochaber Rotary Club members were all of a flutter at their latest lunch meeting when Mandy Cameron, Project Manager with the local "Buzz Project" centre, delivered an engaging talk on this youth-orientated facility.
Currently operating from premises on the Blar Mhor Industrial Estate, the project runs drop-in sessions that give young folk a chance to socialise in a warm and safe place.
It has been operating for over 10 years in Lochaber and encourages creative and diversionary activities for young people, such as music and art.
It also aims to get more young people off the streets in the evenings, giving them the opportunity to socialise with their peers while a trusted adult on the premises gives them access to someone they can speak to about any issues or challenges that they are facing.
The Buzz Project works closely with the University of the Highlands and Islands and is supporting the young people to apply for their courses of choice.
Tutors from the college go along and speak with the young people and support them to find the pathway that is right for them.
Thanking Mandy for her highly informative talk, President David Mee said: "That was a very interesting talk about a good and worthwhile project – it’s for young people - the kind of thing Rotary likes to support"
Members responded with warm applause.
