A brave mum-of-two has returned to Mexico to visit a ’God-led’ treatment centre - with high hopes that holistic healing can help her battle liver cancer.
Eilidh Lowell, who grew up in Oban and has family here, has decided to pause the more invasive treatment she had previously signed up for at Cancun’s Immunocine Centre, funded through a GoFundMe appeal.
She said she wanted to give something new and "nox-toxic" a try - and has described it to followers on her social media as getting some ’TLC - Tender loving care’.
This time, still with continued support from GoFundMe well-wishers, she is midway through a three-week stay at the Hope4Cancer Centre in Tijuana, where her days are filled with alternative treatments. These include sauna and infra-red lamp therapy, drinking juices and health shots, taking intravenous vitamins and health supplement boosts. She is also going through detox, receiving oxygen therapy, learning about nutrition and receiving emotional and spiritual support.
Although she got a refund from Immunocine and the Hope4Cancer centre programme is much cheaper, there is still lots to pay for, including flights and other extras such as the support kit she will take home with her to maintain her new regime.
The three-week stay will "fly by" says Eilidh, who is out there on her own. She made the decision to switch treatment centres after her first visit to Immunocine saw her return home before any treatment started when she contracted a nasty stomach bug. She says the thought of having to have an invasive biopsy, central to Immunocine’s treatment plan, was also worrying her.
Eilidh said she had been "sitting and praying" back home before deciding to take the less invasive /nontoxic approach to her health care.
She says she still believes in Immunocine’s pioneering treatment, which includes taking a biopsy from the cancer area to develop a lab-made anti-cancer cell, and she has not ruled out going back. Neither has she stopped researching other treatments in different countries, as well as some with potential in the UK.
Ellie said: "Immunocine’s biopsy was beginning to really worry me as it is so invasive. That’s why I came back to the drawing board and revisited Hope4Cancer and what they had to offer. I only want a biopsy unless it’s absolutely necessary.
"We’re going to keep the GoFundMe going because the financial burden is real and the cancer is still very much here."
Eilidh said Hope4Cancer was "very much God-led" and "quite amazing."
She said: "Of course it’s still a business, but the people here really want to help. This new treatment gives me another option, it’s much less of a burden on the body and I need to build myself up again."
Eildih’s £130,000 GoFundMe goal, started by Eilidh’s husband Chris, now stands at just over £103,000. You can help by visiting www.gofundme.com/f/my-wife-have-more-time
Arlene McLeod of Oban is helping organise a quiz in aid of Eilidh’s appeal on Friday March 6 at The Royal Hotel, starting at 7pm, with Mike and Shona Wood taking on the role of quizmasters. Tickets are £5 per player with a maximum of five players per team.
