A former banking premises in Inveraray could be brought back into use as short-term letting units under new plans.
The former Royal Bank of Scotland premises at Church Square were last used as a bank in 2018, when banking services were transferred to the town’s Post Office.
Plans have now been submitted to Argyll and Bute Council to revive the building as three letting accommodation units, two with one bedroom and one with three bedrooms in an expansion of Brambles hotel.
A decision from the council’s planning officers is expected by mid-April, with the public now able to view the plans and submit feedback.
A design access statement by REM Associates said: “The property was formerly the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) with the manager’s accommodation on the first and second floors, with the ground floor given over to the bank offices.
“It is expected that the building was previously all residential accommodation although there is no confirmation of this at the date of writing. Approval was granted to make the whole of the building residential.
“The proposal is to bring Campbell House, formerly the RBS building under the accommodation of Brambles of Inveraray with a change of use to provide three short-term letting units, two one-bedroom units and one larger three-bedroom unit.
“The building has been extensively renovated and repaired to a very high standard, bringing the building back to life and to what it used to be within the townscape.
"This proposal will provide the building with a long future and providing quality accommodation for tourists to Argyll, which is badly needed.
“Brambles has long been building up their business in Inveraray and is going from strength to strength, providing good quality accommodation for tourists and providing many local job opportunities. The additional accommodation will provide a further of high quality accommodation and local jobs.”
The statement added: “The proposal makes good business sense for the expansion of Brambles providing high quality accommodation, car parking which all helps make Inveraray a destination for tourists, provides local jobs and brings visitors which help the local economy of all the other businesses.”
