Organisers of Arran Pride are inviting Arran residents and businesses to go wild and paint Arran with Pride for their annual Best Dressed Window competition.
The initiative is aimed at adding a splash of colour to the village during the Arran Pride weekend that takes place from Friday May 29 to 31 this year.
Arran Pride chair, Michael Gettins, said: “Show off your contribution for Arran Pride in your pride style and go wild with colour, nothing will be too over the top.”
To take part, participants need to register by emailing info@arranpride.com before Saturday May 16. Windows should be ready for judging by Saturday May 23, and organisers hope that they can remain decorated until until Monday June 1 – or for the whole of June, Pride month in the UK.
Owner of the winning window will be presented with the stained glass trophy made by Kez Leaded Glass Design, to display in their window for the next year.
The best dressed window competition judges will judge the windows based on extravagance, flair, bright colours, rainbows, lavishness and over the top decorations. The first winner of the trophy was Eleanor Winship from Eleanor’s Flowers. Eleanor made a map of Arran using flower heads in rainbow colours in 2022.
Last year’s winner was Lewis Thomson of Rumours at Brodick Pier. The judges said: “They had managed to create a window that was thought provoking, educational, humorous and powerful.”
Other previous winners have been Chameleon Boutique in Lamlash and Cladach’s A Touch of Enchantment, whose display spread into their garden.
Michael said that the Arran Pride committee always appreciate the effort that Arran businesses put in to the event and said that it is much appreciated.
Arran Pride kicks off with the usual well-attended parade that gathers at 12.30pm on Saturday May 30 on Market Road, before making its way to Brodick Hall. Family-friendly activities in the afternoon will be followed by a ceilidh in the evening and a “recovery barbecue” is scheduled for Sunday lunchtime at the Douglas.
