Paddle steamer models created by an Inveraray-based man provided the “wow factor” at the first Steamers of the Clyde celebration day.
Almost 800 people gathered at Dunoon Pier on April 18 to enjoy a wide range of models, several maritime-related stalls, and a talk by Iain Quinn, quartermaster of the PS Waverley.
Inveraray’s John McNulty and Toward’s Alistair Spencer showcased a model of the Waverley, alongside other steamers.
Rob Wilkinson, from joint organisers Cowal Heritage Society, praised the level of interest in the event.
He added: “The models provided a real ‘wow’ factor, and it was encouraging to see so many younger people taking an interest.
“We spoke to many people from Bute, Glasgow, Inverclyde and further afield who had come especially for the event, as well as a number of holidaymakers in the town keen to learn more about Dunoon’s maritime heritage.”
Ship Ahoy, a Scottish maritime history group, also co-organised the event.
The organisation’s chair, Ian Quinn, paid tribute to the volunteers who helped make the day possible.
He said: “The level of interest in and passion for the Waverley and steamers in general took us all by surprise, with a ‘full house’ attending my three talks during the day. It was standing room only and very encouraging.
“Many thanks to the hundreds of people who came along, and a special thank you to Peter Welsh, Harbourmaster with Argyll and Bute Council, for his foresight in allowing the event to take place.”
Former Harbourmaster Robert Reid also delivered a rousing closing speech.
Groups including the Tighnabruaich Pier Association hosted stalls that attracted significant interest from visitors.
