Mid Argyll Pipe Band celebrated royally on Saturday, hailing the extraordinary work of two of their own.
Piping tutor Rod Buchanan and his wife Kirsty were presented with the British Empire Medal (BEM) at the band’s annual awards night at the Kilmartin Hotel on Saturday February 28.
The couple, who work tirelessly as foster carers, were recognised for services to young people in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours and had the medals presented to them on Saturday by Lord Lieutenant of Argyll and Bute Jane MacLeod and Deputy Rachel Ross.
The pair read their citations from the Cabinet Office on behalf of His Majesty the King which included special mention also of Rod’s long service to bagpiping.
“Many congratulations to Rod and Kirsty on the recognition of their years of service to fostering and, for Rod, to piping,” band treasure Jenny Pendreigh said. “Thank you to everyone who came along to share in such a special night.”
