Sun, songs, smiles and a new Summer Room were the elements which came together at the Mosspark Care Home open day on Saturday May 9, when family and friends were invited along to support residents and staff while also looking over the new garden feature.
Members of the Lochaber Action on Mosspark (LAMP) were also present having contributed £6,000 raised at a Prize Bingo last year for the purchase of the new building.
LAMP fought a successful campaign to keep the home open when its private owners decided to pull out. Their actions and overwhelming public support led it to being taken over by the NHS, who now run it.
On the dry bright day, Johnny MacLean on guitar and vocals with Gary Robertson on fiddle, provided live music in the garden. Johnny who also paid for the joinery work to construct the building was given the honour of cutting the ribbon to officially open ‘The Thistle Room’, where he was joined by Willie Ritchie (who built it) and his wife Mairie, who is a resident, thanking BSW Sawmills for their donation of wood (for the building of new planters) and Breedon for groundwork materials.
While most of the activities took place in the garden a tremendous buffet was served inside, where local Highland dancers also gave a demonstration, with some residents even joining in.
Isla Campbell of LAMP said: “We held a prize bingo last August which was really well supported, raising £6000 for the campaign. We are now delighted this has been used for the ‘Thistle House’ summer room, which also has heating so can be used all year round by residents to take in the fantastic views of the Ben right across the garden.
“Thank to everyone who supported the campaign and all who contributed to completing the beautiful new garden room.”
