Oban rugby clubhouse plans lodged

An application for planning permission at the Glencruitten Clubhouse, on Glencruitten Drive, has now been submitted to Argyll and Bute Council.

The proposal includes the extension and reconfiguration of the clubhouse, a gym, physio suite and function space, and enhanced changing and welfare facilities.

It also includes an external terrace and viewing deck, expanded parking provision, and associated access and landscaping works.

Council planning officers are expected to rule on the application by mid-June, with the public now able to view the plans and submit feedback.

A statement by Bracewell Stirling Consulting said: “This planning statement and design and access statement supports a full planning application for the redevelopment and extension of Oban Lorne Rugby Football Club.

“The proposal forms part of a phased community sports hub development, delivering enhanced sporting, social, and community facilities.

“The site is located at Oban Lorne Rugby Football Club, Glencruitten Drive, Oban. The proposal delivers significant community benefit and is fully compliant with the development plan.

“The proposed development enhances a key community facility, fully complies with LDP2 (Local Development Plan 2) and national policy, responds robustly to pre-application advice [and] addresses flood risk and environmental constraints.

“The proposal is policy compliant, technically robust, supported in principle by the local authority and community, and should therefore be supported for approval.”
