NHS Ayrshire and Arran is encouraging patients and visitors travelling to University Hospital Crosshouse (UHC) to plan their journeys in advance and consider alternative transport options due to ongoing parking pressures on site.
Despite there being over 2,000 car parking spaces at the hospital, weekday parking pressures have increased.
An NHS Ayrshire and Arran spokesperson said: “This is due to higher patient activity, extended visiting hours and the temporary installation of a second magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) vehicle on site until March 2026. This essential equipment supports improved clinical services but has reduced parking capacity in the short term.”
Fraser Bell, assistant director of programmes for NHS Ayrshire and Arran, said: “We know parking at UHC can be difficult during busy times and appreciate the frustration this causes. Over the years we have increased the number of parking spaces and improved car park management, but the site has now reached full capacity and no further expansion is possible.
“Our hospital sites are well served by regular bus routes, and we encourage people to use public transport where suitable, while recognising this may not be possible for those with specific needs.”
Fraser added, “As part of our wider climate and sustainability commitments, we are promoting alternatives to car travel and working with partners to improve walking, cycling and public transport access. We will continue to consider community feedback as we plan long term, sustainable improvements.”
