Arran football season kicks off with Arran Haulage Cup
The Arran football season has kicked off with the first two games of the Arran Haulage Cup taking place before the main Arran Dairies league games later next month.
This year, Southend, Lamlash, Shiskine and Brodick have fielded teams to compete in the Arran Football Association league.
The first game, Shiskine versus Southend took place at Blackwaterfoot and resulted in a 6-1 victory for Southend. Southend took the lead early in the first half and controlled the game going in at half time 3-0 up, although, Southend missed a penalty that was saved by Shiskine keeper Ben McCarthy.
In the second half, Southend keep the momentum going and scored a further three goals. A late penalty awarded to Shiskine allowed for a consolation goal. Goal scorers were: Danny Head, Craig (surname not supplied), Ryan Armstrong, Jamie Worthington x2 and an own goal.
In the second Arran Haulage Cup match between Lamlash and Brodick at Lamlash, scoring began within the first few minutes when veteran player Martin Ross scored a header.
Lamlash continued pushing and went into half time with a 3-0 scoreline. In the second half, and after a few substitutions were made, Jake Young extended the lead by scoring a further goal for the Lamlash side. Goal scorers for the match were: Martin Ross, Charlie Ross, Grant Adamson and Jake Young.
Referee Danny Head named Charlie Ross as the man of the match and awarded Charlie Gilmore of Brodick a special mention for his efforts on the field. The 4-0 scoreline means that Lamlash will face Southend in the final of the Arran Haulage Cup that will take place at Lamlash on Saturday May 2 at 3pm.
