Lochaber Phoenix Boxing Club members took to the road again when traveling the relatively short distance to Inverness for the Highland Boxing Academy (HBA) Fire and Ice Home Show.
Two Lochaber boxers, Alfie Brown and Anton Bodkin had bouts, while a large contingent of family, friends and fellow club boxers joined them and their coaches at Inverness Ice Rink to cheer them. Adding to the atmosphere of the evening in which nine different officially recognised Boxing Scotland member clubs took part.
Alfie was first to step into the ring for the sixth bout of the evening against home club boxer Charlie McLennan at 74kg with both boxer’s having good moments and landing good combinations through the rounds.
However it was Alfie’s overall who landed more and looked dangerous throughout. His jab was important during the bout too as it kept his game opponent at long range.
Improving all the time, Alfie also landed frequently with uppercuts and hooks to head and body at close range.
At the final bell it was Alfie who scored a great victory in a cracking bout - his win being unanimous and well deserved.
Anton Bodkin was top of the bill once again against Alex Mihailkins of HBA. The pair stepped into the ring around midnight in the much waited for finale to a 15 bout programme.
From the outset of the 75kg three times three minute rounds contest Anton was constantly on the front foot, pressing the action against his opponent who preferred to move on the back foot and use the whole ring to keep Anton at bay.
Both boxers showed tremendous skill in every move in what was a really close bout with the Lochaber coaches thinking that Anton had done enough to get the victory.
However, the judges gave the home boxer the close split decision victory.
Speaking afterwards Lochaber Phoenix head coach Aidan Donnelly said: "The pair will undoubtedly meet again and Anton will be gunning to set the record straight.
"He was slightly weight drained going into the bout and it did take the edge of his attacking high pressure boxing style but well done to both boxer’s for a great top of the bill bout and well done to Alfie for his impressive win also."
