A popular Oban cake business has taken a major step forward with the opening of its first permanent premises in the town centre.
Jasmine’s Cakes officially opened its doors on Stevenson Street last Monday, drawing an immediate and enthusiastic response from customers.
The striking pink premises, located in the former Oban Soup Company unit between the Ranald Hotel and the old Etive Restaurant, marks a significant expansion for the business, which has built a loyal following through its regular presence at local events.
Owner Jasmine Jackson says the move into a bricks-and-mortar premises had long been the ambition.
She explained: "The idea was always to have a shop, but it was too big a step initially.
"It’s been good so far. I was quite nervous to open the doors as there is always that feeling of the unknown with anything new. The first day was like a dream, a good flow of customers and a perfect way for us to get into our stride.
"Everyone has been really supportive. For weeks, those I pass in the street have been asking,’when is it opening?’ and wishing me luck.
"Every business on the street, Ora Rosa and Highland Fasteners, all of them have welcomed me and been really supportive."
The new shop, just a short walk from George Square, offers an expanded menu alongside Jasmine’s well-known cakes and cookies, including freshly made soups, sandwiches and a range of hot and cold drinks.
Although primarily a takeaway, a window seat has been installed for customers who wish to sit in.
Jasmine says that her popular trailer will continue to operate at shows and events at weekends, ensuring the business maintains its presence right across Argyll.
Customers can also continue to order bespoke celebration cakes from the new premises.
