Construction has begun on a new affordable housing development at Springbank, Brodick, where Trust Housing Association is building 26 new homes for social rent in partnership with construction company, the JR Group.
The Springbank project will contribute to addressing severe housing pressures on the island, particularly for local families and key workers.
High-quality, energy-efficient and affordable homes are part of Trust’s ongoing new build programme in both urban and rural communities in Scotland.
Sringbank’s position near Brodick’s village centre, local amenities and transport links, including the main ferry terminal, offers a sustainable and accessible location with strong links to local services and onward travel.
Once complete, the development will provide a mix of two and three-bedroom houses, alongside two accessible two-bedroom bungalows.
Delivering the new affordable homes at Springbank supports the wider objectives of the Arran Housing Taskforce (AHT), a multi-agency strategic partnership established to address the unique housing challenges facing the island.
AHT has highlighted the importance of increasing the supply of well-designed, affordable homes to help sustain Arran’s year-round population, support local employment, and enable younger and working-age households to remain on the island.
Ian Davie, director of development and sustainability at Trust Housing Association, said: “As Arran’s largest social landlord, we are delighted to be working in partnership with the Scottish Government, North Ayrshire Council and the JR Group to deliver these 26 new affordable homes in Brodick, playing our part in supporting the long-term social and economic sustainability of the island.
“This is our first new build project with the JR Group and we look forward to developing a long-term relationship that has the potential to deliver more affordable homes across the country that continue to meet local housing need.”

Gary McGregor, managing director at the JR Group, told the Banner: “Starting work on Springbank in Brodick is an exciting milestone. With our experience in delivering housing projects across rural Scotland, we are proud to bring high-quality, affordable homes to Arran’s community.
“This development provides local residents and key workers with much-needed housing options and supports the wider local economy. Working with Trust Housing Association ensures that these homes deliver real community benefit.”
The £9.350m Springbank project is being delivered in partnership with the JR Group, supported by a grant of £6.4m from the Scottish Government through the Affordable Housing Supply Programme and £870,000 from North Ayrshire Council.
Head of service for housing and public protection at North Ayrshire Council, Yvonne Baulk, said: “This development at Springbank is a welcome further step forward in addressing the demand for affordable housing on Arran.
“By working closely with our key partners, including Trust Housing Association, we are helping to deliver high-quality homes that will support island sustainability, benefit local communities and enable families and key workers to continue to live and work on the island.”
Trust Housing Association is one of the largest providers of housing, care and support services in the social rented sector in Scotland, providing and maintaining homes for almost 4,000 households across 23 local authority areas.
Works is already underway at the Springbank site and the 26 new homes are expected to be completed in September 2027.
