It was a busy week from January 27 to February 3 2026 for police in Mid Argyll with a disturbance, online bank fraud, wilful fire-raising, road traffic offences and drug offences.
Van tyre set on fire
Sometime between Saturday January 31 and 11am on Monday February 2 the rear passenger side tyre of a white Citroen Relay panel van has been deliberately set on fire. The vehicle was parked in a parking bay at McEwan Road in Lochgilphead. Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them quoting Crime Reference number CR/0047048/26. Manse Brae disturbance
Police received a report of youths disturbing residents in Manse Brae, Lochgilphead between 6.30pm and 7pm on Wednesday January 28. They were reported as entering gardens, ringing the bell, jumping on a garden hedge and shouting abuse when challenged. Police are appealing for witnesses. Online bank fraud
Police were made aware on Thursday January 29 that a resident in Tarbert had been the victim of a fraud. The victim received a call on Saturday January 10 from a withheld number, from a scammer purporting to be from their bank (Co-op Bank). The scammer said attempts had been made to remove money from the victim’s account and, to prevent this, they should download a link, which the scammer sent. On Monday January 26 the victim realised money had been removed from both their accounts. Police are investigating.
Possession of cannabis
During the early hours of Sunday February 1 on the A819 at Inveraray police stopped a vehicle whilst on routine patrol. A 39-year-old man and a 20-year-old man were detained under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and found in possession of cannabis. The circumstances will be reported to the procurator fiscal.
Car deliberately damaged
Sometime between 11am and 1.30pm on January 29 a white Hyundai Santa Fe motor vehicle has been deliberately damaged, whilst parked within the car park at Ardrishaig Primary School. Police are appealing for witnesses. Dangerous driving
A 20-year-old male driver was cautioned and charged with failing to stop for police and dangerous driving, due to his manner of driving on the A83 near to Stronachullin. The circumstances will be reported to the procurator fiscal.
Unsupervised provisional driver charged
A 25-year-old male driver was stopped in Lorne Street, Lochgilphead on the evening of Saturday January 31 and found to be driving with only a provisional license, unsupervised. He was cautioned and charged with driving without a valid licence and valid insurance. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
