Connectivity boosted for mountain rescuers
Arran Mountain Rescue Team (AMRT) are trialling an EE Rapid Connectivity Case and Starlink Mini that will offer extended network coverage and satellite communications in remote locations around the island.
Starlink uses thousands of low level satellites orbiting at around 550km above the Earth to provide internet connection to almost everywhere on the planet.
The high-speed internet connection in the hills could help negate communication blackspots and improve efficiency for the team which will be able to access online resources and potentially communicate with partners wherever they are located.
A spokesperson from AMRT said: “Arran Mountain Rescue Team would like to extend a huge thank you to BT Business and their head of innovation, Douglas Adam. With their generous support, we are trialling the EE Rapid Connectivity Case and Starlink Mini, which will significantly improve our communications in remote locations across the island.
“Effective communication is essential when managing complex and often fast-moving situations on the hill, and this equipment will make a significant contribution to improving our communications on the ground.”
Arran Mountain Rescue Team is a registered charity made up entirely of volunteers who give up their time to carry out life-saving work on Arran’s hills and mountains. The organisation relies on donations from the public to equip the rescuers and to carry out their rescue work.

If you find yourself in peril in the mountains, dial 999 or 112 and ask for ‘Police’ then ‘Mountain Rescue’. If necessary a call-out will be initiated and AMRT members will be contacted and assemble at the team base, before being briefed on the nature of the incident, and heading out to the appropriate location.
