The Clan MacDougall has announced the death of Madam Morag Hadfield MacDougall of MacDougall, Chief and Head of the Honourable Clan MacDougall, of Dunollie, Oban, Argyll.
Madam Morag MacDougall, the 31st Chief of Clan MacDougall, succeeded her aunt in 1990. She was widely respected for her lifelong commitment to the preservation of clan heritage and the cultural life of Argyll.
In 1998, she founded the MacDougall of Dunollie Preservation Trust, placing part of the Dunollie estate into charitable care. The Trust was established to ensure the long-term conservation of Dunollie Castle and Grounds, one of Scotland’s most significant historic clan seats, overlooking the town of Oban. The castle has been associated with Clan MacDougall for over 1,000 years and remains a focal point of local history, archaeology, and tourism in Argyll.
Clan MacDougall is among the oldest recorded clans in Scotland, Historically influential in Argyll and the western seaboard, the clan’s legacy is closely tied to the region’s political, maritime, and cultural history.
Beyond her public role, Madam Morag MacDougall was a much-loved mother and grandmother. She will be remembered by family, clan members, and the local community for her warmth, generosity, and quiet leadership.
