Cairndow Duck Race turned into a quackers of an event as the yellow ducklings paddled upstream instead of downstream - thanks to the wind being stronger than the current.
The fund-raising event for Cairndow Community Childcare garnered huge support from the surrounding community as, thanks to everyone’s generosity all the available ducks were sold and local businesses kindly donated prizes.
The event raised £800 for childcare charity, which is based in the purpose-built The Fyne Den at the head of Loch Fyne, which will go towards running costs.
Held at Butterbridge, with thanks to Strone Estate, 160 ducks raced towards the finish line with the first six winning prizes for their ‘owners,’ who ranged across the staff, parents and supporters of the centre from Arrochar to Inveraray.
The first prize was £100 to spend at the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar, second prizes a meal at Samphire Restaurant in Inveraray and a voucher for the Escape Room at Inveraray jail.
Third prizes were a voucher for lunch at the Tree shop, Cairndow, or at Brambles in Inveraray and a season ticket to the Ardkinglas Woodland Garden.

Cairndow Childcare is the only facility providing all day childcare, all year round within a 30-mile radius.
It provides Early Years Education for three to four-year-olds as well as childcare for children from six months old.
It also runs the Adventure zone public play area which has a special offer in the month of May - adults don’t pay - and is open Fridays to Mondays 10am to 3pm.
