Steam engines, Vernon, Queen Mary, and Nelson have arrived safely on Arran during their epic journey from Oban to the Peak District.
The convoy, with trailers in tow, began the fundraising trip on Wednesday May 14 and decided to include Arran as one of its many stops along the way.
Arriving in Lochranza today (Wednesday May 14) and departing via Brodick tomorrow, the drivers and a convoy of support vehicles will make a short stop at Arran Heritage Museum tomorrow where they plan to deliver a donation at 2pm.
Along with being a great experience for the drivers and the support team, the 400 mile journey is also being used to raise funds for the RNLI and the Give a Kidney charity.
Vernon is the oldest of the trio, it was built in 1932 and is the last Ransomes traction engine ever built. Ransomes, Sims and Jefferies, based in Ipswich, England, was a premier manufacturer of agricultural machinery, producing steam traction engines from the late 19th to early 20th century.
The engines were well-regarded for their high-quality and efficient designs and were mostly used for threshing, hauling, and driving stationary machinery.
Vernon, and the other steam engines, will use around four tonnes of of coal and 300 gallons of water for every 30 miles travelled.
After the Arran visit, the next stops planned on the route will be: Thursday May 21 Ardrossan; Friday May 22, Dalmellington; Saturday May 23, Crocketford; Sunday May 24, Annan.
Enthusiasts and supporters can track the fundraising journey on the group’s “Where’s Vernon” website at www.wheresvern.co.uk/ where updates and a “live” map will be updated.
