The destruction of trees and a track at Ardteatle, near Dalmally has been described as "disappointing" by a local councillor.
Green Councillor Luna Martin looked into the site in February, after it was reported that the Old Military Road was upturned by a digger, with some 50 something trees uprooted or damaged. An ancient stone dyke was also reduced to rubble in during the works.
The road, which was the former main route to Inveraray, lies just metres from the Duncan Ban MacIntyre Monument, running through the historic Ardteatle Estate past Ardteatle Cottage.
The damage led to investigations by Police, Forestry Scotland, and Argyll and Bute Council.
Councillor Martin said: "It is incredibly disappointing to see so many mature trees damaged and felled.
"Many animals and insects depend on mature trees for feeding and nesting, such a loss may weaken ecological stability in ways which can take decades to recover.
"I am in discussions with residents regarding the safeguarding of other trees in the area.”
Many of the trees damaged by the heavy machinery were believed to be hundreds of years old.
Government agency Forestry Scotland imposed a stop noticed on the culprits of the damage, which remains in place while investigations are ongoing.
"Investigations can be complex and take time to complete," a spokesperson said.
