Cats Protection Ardnamurchan and Mull branch is calling for more support at it celebrates 30 years of being there for cats in need.
The branch is completely volunteer‑run and has been operating for nearly 30 years, helping thousands of cats and owners through rescue and rehoming, feral cat neutering, and by providing advice and support across Mull, Iona, Oban and surrounding communities.
As the branch approaches this major milestone and looks ahead to its fourth decade of operation, it is now appealing for new volunteers to help continue this vital work, and be there for our feline friends in need.
Team coordinator Mauvis said: “With our 30th anniversary coming up, we wanted to say a huge thank you to the many local businesses and communities who have supported us over the years and continue to do so.
“We are a small but extremely busy team of volunteers, and our work genuinely wouldn’t be possible without this support. All funds raised stay local and go directly towards helping cats - from food and enrichment to veterinary care and the equipment needed to carry out trap, neuter and return (TNR) work for feral cats.
"Last year our branch helped more than 40 owned cats through neutering vouchers and successfully neutered 90 feral cats on Mull and in the Oban area. These TNR efforts are essential in preventing unwanted litters, improving cat welfare and reducing long‑term pressure on local communities.
"This work was carried out year‑round by just one dedicated volunteer on Mull and two equally hardy volunteers covering the Oban area, often in challenging weather conditions.”
As the branch enters a new decade, volunteers are crucial to keeping this work going. The branch is currently looking to recruit a treasurer, an administrator, a fundraiser, and two TNR volunteers.
Fundraising Team Leader Jo continued: “Volunteering is a fantastic way to meet like‑minded people and make a real difference. Whether you have a little or a lot of time to give, if you love cats and want to be part of a friendly and dedicated team, we’d love to hear from you.”
