Funding to the Healthy Options ADAPT programme is under threat, so a local councillor has started a petition to save it.
The ADAPT programme has prevented hundreds of people annually from slipping into health decline. But it is now at risk as part of the Health & Social Care Partnership (HSCP) Budget Savings Consultation.
The 12 week programme offers support to people newly diagnosed with life changing conditions, and as the name suggests, helps them adapt to the life challenges these conditions can create.
Lorn Healthy Options has urged local residents to engage with the HSCP’s consultation before decisions are made when the IJB decides its budget for the 2026/27 financial year on Wednesday March 25.
And to support the group, Oban Councillor Amanda Hampsey started a petition urging the HSCP to halt the funding slash.
Speaking to The Oban Times, Councillor Hampsey said: "I previously had the benefit of visiting Healthy Options a few years back, within my capacity as Policy Lead for Health and Social Care and seen first-hand the marvellous work they carry out.
"Indeed, they could be described as a real ’jewel in the crown’ of the HSCP’s commitment to the Joint Strategic Plan (2022-2025), which focused on preventative, community-based care to help residents live longer, healthier and independent lives.
"A key strategy was the ’Living Well’ strategy (supporting long-term condition management) and developing sustainable, person-centred care.
"The loss of this vital service would have severe impact."
Figures from Healthy Options show that 68 per cent of participants of ADAPT reduce their GP visits within three months, with 80 per cent reporting increased confidence and ability to manage their symptoms.
The petition, which you can find here, already has 400 signatures after 24 hours.
