Members of Shopper-Aide’s Elderberries social group welcomed members of the Kintyre Veterans group for a special VE Day celebration at the charity’s unit in Snipefield Industrial Estate.
The gathering brought together older residents and local veterans to share memories, stories and laughter as they marked the anniversary of Victory in Europe Day on May 8, 1945, when Nazi Germany surrendered to Allied forces, ending World War II.
Veterans Keith Mitchell, Shona Smith, Stuart Andrew and Jimmy Robertson entertained the group with humorous tales and memories from their time in the military, keeping everyone in high spirits throughout the event.

Organisers said the combined ages of those in attendance added up to “nearly 1,000 years of life experience”.
For many of the Elderberries members, the occasion also brought back memories of wartime experiences and family sacrifices during the Second World War.
Some recalled hearing planes flying overhead and taking part in celebrations when peace in Europe was declared in 1945.
Staff of Shopper-Aide, which provides grocery shopping, befriending and extra household support for older people across Kintyre to help them maintain independence in their own homes, said it was “so lovely” to have local veterans give up their time to chat with the group and share their experiences.
The VE Day event was held as part of the charity’s ongoing Elderberries social group activities.
