Oban-based charity Hebridean Pursuits Outdoor Learning (HPOL) is looking for a new Trustee Treasurer to join its board, offering a unique opportunity for someone with financial expertise and a passion for the outdoors to help shape the lives of young people across Scotland.
HPOL, founded in 1989 and now a registered Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), delivers adventure-based learning programmes designed to support young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Activities such as hillwalking, climbing, gorge scrambling, and paddlesports are used to help participants grow in confidence, develop resilience, and discover strengths they may not have realised they had. The charity works with young people aged five to twenty-six, and places a particular focus on helping those facing social exclusion, poverty, or mental health challenges and they are seeking a new Volunteer Trustee Treasurer, could that be you?
At the heart of HPOL’s success is a team of qualified, experienced instructors and trustees who share a belief in the transformative power of the outdoors. The new Trustee Treasurer will play a key role in ensuring the financial sustainability and transparency of the organisation, supporting its continued growth and impact. The role is voluntary, with a time commitment of around one to two days per month, and involves working closely with the board to oversee budgets, financial planning, and governance.
“We’re keen to hear from someone who not only brings sound financial management skills, but who also believes in the value of what we do, using real outdoor adventures to help young people achieve more than they thought possible,” said a spokesperson for HPOL.
This is more than a numbers role. It’s a chance to contribute meaningfully to a charity that has been quietly changing lives for more than three decades, combining adventure with purpose.
